Editorial Policy

The four-stage workflow

Each calculator on Numora goes through four stages before it ships to the public site:

• Research. An author identifies the head query, surveys the existing top-10 results, and drafts a v7 spec covering inputs, formulas, interpretation, sources, and worked examples.
• Math validation. The calculator's formulas are validated by the engine validator + a stress test that runs every declared test case against the engine. Calcs with broken math don't publish.
• Expert review. Calculators marked YMYL (your-money-your-life — finance, health, tax, legal) are reviewed by a subject-matter expert with a verifiable credential. The reviewer's name and review date appear on the byline.
• Editorial pass. A second editor reads the page for plain-English clarity, banned-phrase scrub, currency consistency, and date freshness before publish.

Source standards

Every calculator cites primary sources, not blog posts. Acceptable sources:

• Standards bodies and regulators (ISO, BIPM, IRS, CFPB, USDA, WHO, NIST).
• Peer-reviewed academic literature.
• National statistical agencies (BLS, ONS, Eurostat, World Bank).
• Trade-body guidelines for narrow professional domains (ACSM, IUPAC, ASCE).

Reviewer credentials

YMYL reviewers must hold a verifiable professional credential in the subject's domain:

• Finance — CFA, CFP, CPA, attorney admitted to a US bar, FCA-authorized adviser.
• Health & nutrition — MD, DO, RD/RDN, RN, PT, ACSM-certified clinical exercise physiologist.
• Construction & engineering — PE, RA, NCARB-certified, ASME / ASCE professional member.
• Tax — CPA, EA (enrolled agent), attorney with a tax LLM.

Update cadence

YMYL calculators are reviewed every six months. Non-YMYL calculators every twelve months. The "last reviewed" date on every page tracks this; pages overdue for review surface in our internal review queue.

Corrections

Spotted an error? Email editors@numora.net. We verify, fix, and stamp the byline with the corrected date. Material corrections are noted at the top of the affected page.

Independence

Numora has no advertisers, no affiliate relationships embedded in calculator output, and no paid placement. Calculators rank by usage, not sponsorship. The only commercial calculators we'd ever consider would be clearly labelled as such; we have none today.

Conflicts of interest

Reviewers disclose any financial relationship with regulators, vendors, or interests relevant to calculators they sign off on. A standing disclosure appears on each reviewer's /team profile.

AI use

We use AI (Claude, Gemini) to draft initial copy, validate cross-source citations, and run automated quality checks. Every published page is reviewed by a human editor; AI does not publish unsupervised.
